Why Did Taco Bell Discontinue The Taco Salad

Taco Bell is eliminating several items from its menu, and taco salad is one of them. But why did taco bell discontinue the taco salad?

Taco Bell offered Fiesta Taco Salad with other seafood salad menus in the past, but those items were discontinued. However, customers would like to order placement to have healthy salad, but the old menu wasn’t healthy. This is the main reason taco bell discontinue taco salad.

Yes, Taco Bell doesn’t add a salad to its menu.

Why, let’s see in detail below!

What is Taco Salad?

What is Taco Salad

Taco Salad, also called Fiesta Taco Salad, was a menu item at Taco Bell. This is a Tex-Mex dish item that mixes all ingredients used in Tex-Mex Tacos. This salad menu originated in Texas in the 1960s.

The main ingredients of this salad to fill the shell bowls are ground beef, tomatoes, cheese, green onions, beans, black olives, lettuce, sour cream, rice, and crunchy strips. Taco bell offered their Fiesta Taco salad at a reasonable price until 2020.

Why Did Taco Bell Discontinue the Taco Salad?

Taco Bell’s Taco salad was a favorite crunchy tortilla bowl made of ground beef with tortilla strips and other main ingredients mentioned above, and everyone loved them. Then there is some valuable cause for discontinuing taco salad.

First Reason:

It stopped selling because it wasn’t healthy, though it was called salad. It contains a lot of calories, and the tortilla shells made early in the morning turned stale by the nighttime, which mainly led to it stopping the Taco Salad dish.

Every taco salad plate contains 49 grams of fat with 900 grams of calories, excluding additional side dishes. So, many customers want to reduce the calories by subbing ground beef and chicken or eliminating cheese and sour cream. But the tortilla bowl still has enough calories, making it inappropriate for diet.

Second Reason:

According to the workers of Taco Bell, the shells could not be used for other food items either. For this reason, they thought stopping selling taco salad would be the best way to save money and effort. It also stopped wasting the shells more.

Third Reason:

Taco bell discontinued further dishes during the pandemic to bring an evolution in the menu and change creativity in customers’ liking by making more new items. Besides the taco salad, they also remove dozens of items simultaneously.

Fourth Reason:

According to the Reddit user Cold Wire, the Mexican Chain removed the bowl for the difficulty of maintaining the taco shell with the low demand for taco bowls. However, it’s objective to say there is still a little demand or a fan started a petition for the taco salad’s return.

Another Reddit user commented the taco shell was perfect, and I have tried getting them another placer, including a unique Mexican restaurant, and they aren’t the same.

Is The Taco Salad Healthy?

Is The Taco Salad Healthy

According to the Taco Bell Nutritional Guide, the Taco Salad contains 740 calories with 38 grams of fat and 1,100 milligrams of sodium. This taco salad includes high calories and fat, which isn’t a desirable fact at all. On the other side, this salad recipe doesn’t pack with powerful protein, where the protein is 25 grams per serving.

The taco salad is packed with high saturated fat and calories that contain dangerous trans fat. This fat can increase cholesterol levels, which puts the consumer at a higher risk of heart disease. Besides taco salad, there are some more salad options at Taco Bell, which also contain a huge amount of sodium.

The Fiesta Taco Salad contains 1260 milligram of sodium, and the Express taco Salad with chips contain 1270 milligram of sodium. If you want to consume the Fiesta Taco Salad with ground chicken, beef, or grilled steak, the salad can offer 1340 milligrams of sodium. Sodium is good for healthy health, but having too much sodium can cause increasing the risk of high blood pressure, brain stroke, kidney disease, and heart attack. That chance has in a taco salad regularly.

According to the daily recommendation of the Archive of Internal Medicine for sodium, a healthy adult should try to keep salt intake to 2300 milligrams of sodium per day. If you want to get taco salad at taco bell, you should eat half or save the salad for next time. Or you can split a taco salad with your friend that helps you to eat low sodium. Or you can skip beef or crunchy shell as an additional way to take lower sodium.

Wrap Up!

Taco Bell always tries to make some new creative, and innovative for their customers. They also focus on generating a good image and saving labor with costing on items that couldn’t go to waste. As they have learned, healthy food had to look healthy and taste good, and they should have stopped selling some items from their menu, like Taco salad. The other is that they must prepare those dishes early and sell them until nighttime.

Despite fans increasing an argument against discontinuing the Taco Salad, Taco Bell stopped taking orders for Taco Salad. We think it was their right decision to make conscious for good health.
